Car Seat / SafeKids

Durham County Business Services Division is proud to work with SafeKids of Durham County, a nonprofit organization working to help families and communities keep kids safe from injuries by providing operational support and other resources to assist in achieving our common goal: keeping your kids safe. Based on the needs of the community, this coalition implements evidence-based programs, such as car-seat checkups, safety workshops and sports clinics, that help parents and caregivers prevent childhood injuries.

Your Partner in Disaster Preparedness and Response

Durham County Emergency Management leads the community's preparedness, planning, response, and recovery efforts for natural and man-made disasters. Emergency Management (EM) spearheads the County Emergency Operations Plan, coordinating all emergency response activities in the event of an incident. EM is the agency through which the County Board of Commissioners and the Durham City Council exercise the authority vested in them during accidents and disasters.

More About EMS

EMS operates ambulances 24/7 and have various special teams, including a Bicycle Team and a Strike Team. Some of the services provided by Durham County EMS include:

  • Responding to medical emergencies

  • Ambulance transportation

  • Community outreach

  • Harm reduction programs (helping people who are struggling with addiction)

  • Assisting people experiencing homelessness

  • Assisting seniors


The Durham County Mobile Integrated Healthcare/Community Paramedic (MIH/CP) program is a noteworthy initiative that helps connect at-risk community members with preventative healthcare and social services. This program was awarded the 2022 NACo Achievement Award in recognition of its achievements.

Protecting Our Community: Your Fire Safety Partner

The Fire Marshal Division of Emergency Services is dedicated to the service of our community. Our mission is to protect life, property and the environment through public fire life safety education. 

The Fire Marshal Division supports the community by providing:

  • Public fire education

  • Community risk reduction

  • Fire Investigations

  • Delivery of the North Carolina Fire Code which includes fire inspections and permitting

  • Emergency Management support

  • County fire department support and coordination

  • Plan review for construction projects

  • Home fire safety education
