MEET YOUR DISTRICT 25 CANDIDATE
Hello,

First, I want to thank you for your support as I run as candidate for the AZ State Senate office in the Legislative District 25!
I was born and raised on the south side of Chicago, IL. I come from a family-oriented background, surrounded by faith, love, and support. I moved to Arizona in 2001 to not only get away from the hardships while living in Chicago, but to also pursue my educational goals and to have a better surrounding.
I completed my Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate degree, and became a psychologist. I met my husband here in AZ, and we have 2 children. I fell in love with this great state, and decided this was home for me. I have always been eager to help and be an advocate for others who lack resources and/or who strive to find a path to increase their overall quality of life.
I am passionate about extinguishing inequality and anything that continues to create racial/health disparities within our communities.
You should know that I will always fight for democracy, in making sure it is maintained/protected, as it is reflective of everything this country was built on, and reflective of what we stand for when it comes to preserving/defending our human rights. It is time to get rid of leaders who continue to cause division within our state, so that we can begin to focus on key concerns of the people, rather than the party.
I am in support of a people first economy, creating solutions to continue to address Social Determinants of Health, community driven, and ready to serve, with your help and support.

SONYA'S KEY ISSUES

Protecting Democracy
Supporting bills that continue to uphold the dignity, self-determination, and the human rights of all people within the great state of Arizona.

Reproductive Rights &
Abortion Access
Women should have the right to have access/choices to adequate healthcare in addressing their reproductive rights/sexual health, the right to decide and have access to abortion/family planning, in addition to having a right to privacy, without discrimination.

Mental Health
Bringing forth strategies and solutions, such as supporting prescription privileges for psychologists, etc., in an effort to minimize barriers that interfere with access to services in all communities.

Voting Rights
This is essential to protecting democracy in our country/state. I am in support of extinguishing voter intimidation while providing voter protection, getting rid of barriers that make it difficult to vote, increasing voter turnout, providing education to AZ communities in decreasing any myths that associated with voting, while speaking against extremists who want to restrictions on this right.

Education
Supporting bonds/bills that will aim to improve our schools, in addition to resources/funding for the improvement of education for our students and dismantling any programs/vouchers that continue to cause concerns or equity, lack of oversight, in which takes away from public school funding, and adversely affects children in underserved/marginalized communities.

Agriculture & Water
Water is an essential basic need and is important to our health, sanitation/hygiene, our farmers/agriculture, and growth of our economy. This is a very important issue that needs to be supported, monitored, and discussed for the continued health and growth of our communities and farmers.
